Visit Granada hotel – a magical place full of beautiful traditions

Granada is one of the oldest cities in Central America. It was founded in 1524 by Francisco Hernández de Córdoba. Granada is Nicaragua’s sixth most populous city with an estimated population of 123,697 (2012).

The city of Granada is located on the shores of Lake Nicaragua (also known as Cocibolca). The lake is the twentieth largest in the world. The lake is also home to the only fresh water sharks in the world.

Mombacho volcano is located in the department of Granada. When the volcano blew, most of its cone made the 365 islets in Lake Nicaragua. Mombacho is not extinct, but its last eruption occurred in 1570.

Granada’s colonial style of architecture attracts tourists from all over the world. There has been much work over the past years to restore some of the ancient buildings and churches. Because the city was created before the advent of motorized vehicles, many of the streets now are only one-way traffic.

When the railroad took people from the Caribbean to the Pacific, Granada was one of the main stops. Although the train no longer exists, the station has been converted to a museum to commemorate the existence.

Come visit Granada and experience its rich culture and colonial buildings.
